We had some technical difficulties during our training with Farmina, so thank you to all who attended for your patience. Farmina Rep, Danielle Rios, was unable to share her screen and as a result I had to pull up PDFs on my end to accompany her talking points. She is mailing out comprehensive info packets that stores will receive in the coming days and we will schedule an additional training with our Northeastern Rep Marshall Wishnic in the near future. Farmina is a science based pet nutrition company that is family owned and operated in Italy. As one of the original producers of ancestral grain diets, their low glycemic recipes have been proven effective through ongoing independent scientific research and clinical trials. |

Together with Open Farm we can do some good for animals and our planet. |
In this week's training we were joined by Wayne Deaven, Mid-Atlantic Regional Sales Manager for Diamond Pet Foods, which produces both Taste of the Wild and Diamond Naturals. With the cost of pet food on the rise due to inflation and supply chain issues, we are pleased to offer Diamond Pet Foods' cost effective options that are comparable in quality to some of the bigger name brands out there. In Wayne's presentation he uses examples of competitors with similar ingredient panels that are priced substantially higher per pound. Since Diamond Pet Foods brands are priced lower this is an opportunity not only for the customer to save, but for our stores to make even more profit. If a customer happens to spend less than they normally budget on food, they are more likely to add on treats and toys to their purchase which generally carry higher profit margins. Wayne also points to the fact that they are a pet food company not owned by a larger conglomerate. Being family owned with 5 manufacturing plants in the U.S helps them continue to keep their costs down. They also plan to invest 233 million to expand production with the acquisition of a plant in Frontenac, KS and the construction of a 700,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Rushville, IN. This is a significant development as it will further bring down the cost of Diamond Naturals and Taste of the Wild in the future. |

In this training we are joined by Natural Balance Northeast Sales Director, Sue McCarthy. Natural Balance has maintained their status as the #1 brand in "limited ingredient" dry dog food (by shares and dollar sales in total pet specialty). For over 15 years they have been pioneering L.I.D. formulas, which keep pet diets simple and help pet parents single out food allergens. After being divested by the J.M. Smucker Company roughly one year ago, they are now privately held and revamping their brand with an increased focus on neighborhood pet specialty. This includes a new logo and packaging updates which you will begin seeing in stores this coming March. We also have plans to bring in some of their exciting new product offerings including their L.I.D. Freeze Dried Raw, and Gently-Cooked Platefulls which are a response to the direct-to-consumer "human-grade" formulas which have emerged in the market. Platefulls are complete and balanced and unlike some of their counterparts, they are a shelf stable product. |
Treatibles founder Julianna Carella discusses the science behind how their CBD products work in conjunction with the endocannabinoid system, and gives us an overview of their product line, which includes new products. Near the end of her presentation she discusses compliance. Many misconceptions surrounding the CBD category stem from FDA restrictions and compliance. This is a great training to review in order to understand the basics of the CBD category as she answers the most common questions you will encounter from customers on a regular basis. |
