Our Dog Food Philosophy

  • Pet nutrition is complex. How do I decide which food is best for my dog?

  • At Doggie Style Pets, we believe in helping you find the best food for your price point. We will never make recommendations like “everyone should feed X Premium Brand Dog Food because not everyone can afford X premium brand. We want to help customers find a food that is right for their budget & their pet’s health. Look for mostly meat, less fillers and by-products: We generally agree with the ranking system used by the website dogfoodadvisor.com (an independent, unbiased website that does not accept monetary donations or free product friom any manufacturers) - the foods that will be best for most dogs are those that are high in protein and where the protein is derived mainly from muscle meat. Healthy dog foods should also contain carbohydrates and fats but in lower quantities. We do not generally recommend brands that are made mostly with meat by-products or filler ingredients like corn but we also don’t want to shame anyone for feeding that to their pet - not everyone can afford premium brands or knows the difference!

  • Sourcing is important: We try to only carry brands that are careful and selective about where their ingredients come from. That’s why our stores tend to carry some smaller/higher price point brands - because these companies source their meat and other ingredients carefully to ensure that they do not have recalls or other issues. This is also why we occasionally experience issues with backorders with many of the products we carry (who knew backorders were a good thing!) - because these brands won’t compromise on the quality of their ingredients, if they can’t find the quality they are looking for, they will stop making the food until they can find it again.
